10 Ways to Fall in Love with Yourself

10 Ways to Fall in Love with Yourself

Self-love!

Quite a powerful and eccentric phrase.

Also, one of the most underrated and misjudged ones.

We, humans, are one of the most peculiar beings. We spend so much time thinking and loving other people that we completely forget that charity begins at home.

When we fail to love ourselves, appreciate our efforts and accomplishments, how can we love other people?

Reading these statements, some of you might be like, ‘Oh, I love myself fully enough to appreciate my being in this world.’ For all such people, I have a question, ‘Would you ever want to trade places with anyone else in the world? Or is there anybody you admire to such an extent that you would like to become them even if it’s for a day?’

If your answer is YES for any of the two questions, you don’t love yourself enough. Self-improvement is one thing, but self-rejection is another. When you keep someone above yourself, you simply aren’t loving yourself enough. And until you do, you will never achieve sustained happiness fully.

Falling in love doesn’t make you rude, arrogant, vain, over-ambitious, or over-powering. It simply means that you harbour deep self-respect for yourself. More than that, it means you are aware of your flaws, are self-confident, and have a deep respect for yourself. Self-love makes you keep yourself above others, your happiness gains significance, and you start believing in yourself or your potential.

Some people might spend their lifetime finding the right people to love them while others might be content with themselves and don’t require anybody else to tell them how appreciated they are!

But the question here is, how can one fall in love with oneself?

Is there a road to achieving self-love, or is it simply a feeling?

Well, no guide can teach you how to love yourself, but some ways certainly will make you more aware of yourself. And when you do that, you give yourself the power to make changes in your life for love and compassion.

Self-love is a feeling, it’s a vibe, and the only way you can live a happy life is when you love yourself enough to make mistakes, accomplish goals, handle successes and failures, and still, at the end of the day, say to yourself, ‘So, you’ve had a long day, but you made it through, and nobody is prouder of what you’ve done than I. Keep up the good work and keep going!’

And with that said, the following are 10 ways you can try falling and staying in love with yourself.

10 Ways to Fall in Love with Yourself

1. Surrender your beliefs about yourself

We beat ourselves too much with other people’s accomplishments and successes. So, before you fall in love with yourself, give up the desire to be someone else. It is normal to be inspired by someone else’s story, but your life will only improve when you try to accept who you are and trust your potential.

Even if you believe that you aren’t pretty enough like your friend, you don’t have to kill your existing looks with that thought. Plus, you can’t do anything about it.

When you compare yourself with others, you bring yourself down. The first step to self-love is surrendering to reality, accepting who you are, and finding yourself worthy of happiness.

2. Reimagine your flaws and work on them

No human being is perfect. Everyone has their set of flaws, and indeed, that is what makes us unique. So, stop considering your flaws as your weakness. Instead, think of them as quirks or hallmarks. And if there is something that you don’t like about yourself, work on it.

There will always be something that you don’t like about yourself, but instead of worrying about it, change it. Stop critically analyzing yourself, and you’ll be one step near to loving yourself.

3. Make a list of all your accomplishments

While we are often too loud with our achievements in front of others, are we supportive enough of them when there is no one in the room?

To appreciate your accomplishments more, make a list of them. It will remind you how much you’ve achieved, make you aware of your capability, and feel pride and admiration for yourself. Even if you think you haven’t accomplished much, think of it this way: you are better than most people, and you will be better than most people in the years to come.

When you feel good about yourself, you are bound to complete your walk on the road to self-love.

4. Indulge in a positive self-talk session

Your beliefs have the power to create and destroy. Often, we don’t find people to talk to about our day, problems, or even what’s bothering us. In such times, what can help us is self-talk. Our thinking has the power to solve everything. All we must do is make sure we are relying on it. Self-talk sessions allow you to dive deep into your mind and thoughts and discover innovative solutions.

As much as fifteen minutes of a self-discovery session can give you a peek under the covers of your consciousness. You’ll be aware of your fears, worries, and dreams that exist and confront them. When you have difficult conversations with yourself, you’ll figure out your imperfections and that makes you a perfect human.

5. Do something you’re afraid of

Are you scared of something so much that you’ve made your mind never to do it?

Some people might be afraid of rejections, while others might be scared of scuba diving, and some others might fear switching over their jobs or following their dream career.

We all have our fears, but we all have a choice too. And most times, we choose to be fearful of things only because they are out of our comfort zone. However, this is where we go wrong.

There is nothing more empowering than saying yes to things that scare us to our core. Because when you’ve conquered that fear, you will have all respect and admiration for yourself.

6. Be clear on what you want from your life

Often, we feel defeated to be stuck in a place that doesn’t satisfy us or make us feel happy. It feels like we’re missing the chance out of your life. And then, we become dwellers living a comfortable yet sad life.

Some people might feel discouraged that they must act, while others just learn to live with their disappointments. And this is the primary source of sadness and agony in most people’s lives. So, don’t be one of them. Enrage yourself to a point where you are ready to give up luxuries for happiness in your life. Sure, you might have to endure drudgery and might feel lost and doubt your actions, but still take a shot at things you want from life.

Because once you’ve accomplished the impossible in your life, you’ll value your addition to this world even more.

7. Treat yourself more often

We all love gifts; some might prefer expensive things while others are content with even cheap ones. However, we don’t so often get to treat ourselves maybe because we have a family to take care of or because we have responsibilities, loans, bills, etc.

Nonetheless, we should, occasionally, make a list of all the things we wish to buy but couldn’t for a long time, and treat ourselves with at least one item amongst them. Now, you don’t have to purchase extravagant fits, but even the small ones would do.

Big or small; cheap or expensive- treat yourself with things you love, and you’ll be closer to loving yourself more than you ever did before.

8. Develop positive habits

We all wish to inculcate good habits within ourselves, but we fail to make them a part of our lives due to a lack of determination. So, try to include more positive habits in your regime. Keep them simple but consistent. You might want to start meditating, drink more water, spend time out in nature, eat more fruits, go for a run, exercise more often, and whatnot.

Think about it this way- how can you love yourself enough when you can’t take good care of yourself? And just like that, think of more positive habits and add them to your daily regime.

When you feel happy with yourself is when you are doing enough to love yourself.

9. Find time for fun in your life

Life is a never-ending to-do list. If we only take care of our responsibilities, we’ll be left with too little time to live. We must do things that make us feel happy and excited and do more of it. And before claiming that you don’t have enough time for fun things, remember that work and play should go together. If we immerse ourselves only in work, we’ll miss all those moments in our life when we could have lived a little.

10. Give back to the community

Raise your standard of giving when you raise your standard of living. When you help others, especially those in need, you find a new purpose in your life and feel satisfied with your actions. When you give to the world, you start loving yourself more. You’ll stop looking for external validation and affirmation. And let’s be honest, there is nothing better than being the reason behind someone’s smile.

Conclusion

Loving yourself is not that difficult once you’ve made up your mind. Self-love is a set of several individual actions that make you more attuned to your needs, take good care of yourself, and become happy and content with what you have.

Plus, when you’ll start loving yourself, you’ll feel more accomplished and satisfied. And there is nothing more you’ll want.
